The Short Answer: It Depends on Your Plan
Lots of health plans pay for some chiropractic care. Some plans do not pay for it at all. Others pay for only a set number of visits each year.
So the honest answer is maybe. Your own plan decides. Two neighbors with different plans can get very different answers.
That is why the best first step is a quick call to your insurance company. Our page on does insurance cover chiropractic care covers the basics, too.
| What matters | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Deductible | You may pay more early in the year, before you meet it. |
| Visit limit | Your plan may pay for only a set number of visits. |
| Reason for care | Plans often look at whether you have a problem, like pain. |
| Network | Some plans pay more for in-network providers. |
| Referral | Some plans want a note from your main doctor first. |
| Plan type | Each plan has its own rules, so ask about yours. |
Insurance Words, Explained Simply
Insurance has its own words. They can feel confusing at first. Here is what the main ones mean in plain talk.
MedlinePlus has a simple guide to health insurance if you want to learn more health insurance.
- Deductible: the amount you pay each year before your plan starts to help.
- Copay: a set amount you pay at each visit.
- Coinsurance: a share of each bill that you pay.
- Visit limit: the most visits your plan will pay for in a year.
- In-network: a provider who has a deal with your insurance company.
- Referral: a note from your main doctor that some plans need first.
What Changes Whether Your Visits Are Covered
A few things decide how much your plan will help. The reason for your visit matters a lot. Many plans pay when care is for a problem, like back or neck pain.
Some plans may not pay for visits just to stay well. They call this maintenance care. That means visits when you have no new problem.
Your deductible matters, too. Early in the year, you may pay more yourself. Once you meet it, your plan may pay more. You can read more on our chiropractic insurance page.
Questions to Ask Your Insurance Company
The phone number on the back of your card is your best friend here. A short call can save you surprises later. Here are good questions to ask.
Write down the answers. Also write the name of the person you spoke with. That way you have it if questions come up later.
- Does my plan cover chiropractic care?
- How many visits do I get each year?
- Do I need a referral from my main doctor first?
- Is The Glen Chiropractic & Acupuncture in my network?
- What is my deductible, and how much have I met so far?
- What will my copay or coinsurance be?
- Is acupuncture covered, too?
HSA and FSA Accounts Can Help
Some people have an HSA or an FSA. These are special accounts. You put money in them for health costs before taxes.
The IRS lists chiropractic care as something these accounts can pay for medical and dental expenses (what HSA/FSA can pay for). Check with your account company to be sure about your own rules.
This can be a big help. It can work even when your insurance plan does not pay for visits.
What It Costs at The Glen
We do not have set prices to list on this page. Each person's needs are different, so each care plan is different.
At your first visit, Dr. Arthur Hoffman does an exam and listens to what is going on. After that, he explains your care plan and its cost.
